Winning a Green Card
My oh my...
On the day of Christa's surgery -June 13th- a big white envelope was sticking out of our mailbox. The Kentucky Consular Center. The long awaited Notification Letter in which Chris was congratulated with winning a green card! The timing couldn't be more perfect.
But this is just the first step.
After joining 8 million other people with the DV Lottery last December, we are one of 100.000 who received a chance. Indeed, a chance because only 55.000 green cards are available for coming year. But people die, move or just are too freaked out to move to the US.
Well, we have been here some 2,5 years and frankly, we would freak out going back to where we came from, The Netherlands that is. Ok, we know that the US is not perfect, but which country really is? This one comes pretty close to it, according to us.
Nature, hiking, wildlife, travelling are our passions. Combine that with the vast business opportunities, way more living space than in Holland and -I'm sorry, my fellow countrymen- a more relax atmosphere, and this is the country we would like to call home. Oh, and did we mention the nature, the hiking and the wildlife?
:)
So, what's next?
We have to wait until our case number (2006EU00011xxx) will become current, which means that they will process our application.
Based on previous years, our number will probably become current somewhere between November 2005 and April 2006.
Which means basically... eh... that we have to wait.
So please leave comments and come back regularly for our updates!
Hans & Christa

I'm 2006EU00009xxx, also in US, near DC. Where you are? Let us know when you get the second package.
Hi, we're in Silver Spring, MD.
Keep watching our blog, we'll post it as soon as it is in!
Hans & Christa,
Congrats. I love the Netherlands. I live and work in the US for more than five years now. I go to visit my relatives in the Netherlands each time I have the opportunity.
Good Luck!
Maloni [(DV 2005; AF41XXX) May be will be called for CP on september...]
Thanks Maloni! Good luck 2u2! Holland isn't that bad, but this is better :)
We're from Oz with DV2006OC00001XXX--I wonder when we will get our interview? I've looked at previous years of visa bullentins and am guessing next year around August 2006---does this sound correct?
Congratulations!
I'm 2006EU11XX living in the US and doing AOS. I've just received the second letter (the one that AOS only applicants get), with further instructions on payment and to stay put until October.
Where do you guys live? I'm in WI.
Barbara

ASWINNER
Hi there,
My name's Soph. I was a 2005DV winner (EU18xxx). I got my visa in June. I had chosen to do CP in France. (I was in the US under F1)
What did you decide: CP or AOS?
Your case number is great, with CP you would probably get an interview in Nov/Dec.
I hope to hear from you soon!
Good luck in the DV process!
Hi Soph!
Thanks for your comment! Wow, so you're really a fresh addition to the US. When will you move? We decided to do CP as well. And wow again: an interview in Nov/Dec... sounds perfect to us!!! Thanks again and we will keep you posted!
Hi,
I had been in the US for 2years (MS degree). I arrived in August of 03, and played for the 1st time at the lottery in November. I received the letter at my US address at the end of July 04. I sent the forms late(mid Oct.): lawyer's advice was to get married with my boyfrend if I wanted him to stay with me. So we did not get an interview date in April, but only in June. We got approved. I would say that for us, it was pretty easy: no questions, they did not ask for tax returns..
I went back in the US on June 16th for the 1st time as a LPR!
My husband already received his welcome letter, but not me! ( I called USCIS, and they said they had just sent it).
I guess you're making the right decision: CP is usually faster and easier than AOS, if you don't mind taking days off to go back to your country.
Now you just have to wait and hope. But coming from Europe, with a low number like yours, everything should be fine.
I put your blog in my favorites list, so we'll stay in touch.
Cheers!
Hi!
My name is Lenita, and I too sent in an application to the DV2006 lottery, but haven´t heard anything as of yet :(
Do you know how long they keep sending out winners notifications? With August just around the corner I guess my luck might be running low...
What is the difference between CP and AOS? Haven´t seen those terms before.
Congratulations on getting notified! Florida is a great place to be!
Hi Lenita,
I'm sorry to hear you haven't received a Notification Letter. You still have officially one or two weeks left, I think. Post your message/question on that bulletin board (see link on your right).
CP = Consular Processing, at the American Consulate in your native country. That is where the interview will take place. My suggestion: do this instead of
AOS = Adjustment of Status. You can do this while already in the US on an other visa. But this can take longer.
Hope this helps!
Best of luck and please come back :)
